The kids are in school and the weather is beginning to change, which means my favorite time of year is here! What better way to enjoy a crisp fall day with the kids at school, than with my favorite magazines on the daybeds in my sunroom. Part of what makes this time of year so special to me is the decorating and baking. While I’d love to say all of my ideas for the home and kitchen come from mind, the inspiration has got to come from somewhere. I love to get fall inspiration and a little me time all at once with a cup of hot chocolate and the Real Simple and InStyle magazines.
Because my work is online, I am frequently spotted on my laptop or phone. Boy do I love Pinterest for perusing, playing and gaining inspiration, but I sure can use a break from all of the electronic devices. My chance to unwind and find relaxation is to flip open a good magazine. So when I’m on one of my grocery store runs to Safeway, I make sure I’m stocked up on hot chocolate and of course, my favorite magazines. If I can call kicking up my feet and laying in the sunroom with the rain spattering outside the windows, work somehow, then I will. The October through December issues of Real Simple are my absolute favorites. I get ideas for meals, decorating for the holidays, how to strengthen my marriage, and so much more.
In the October issue of Real Simple, there are some great pro tips regarding pumpkin carving. For example, I had no idea you could spray the inside and outside of your jack-o-lantern with bathroom cleaner (with bleach) to make it last longer! This obviously isn’t recommended if you have pets that will be roaming around the pumpkin, but otherwise a very handy trick. Nobody likes a moldy pumpkin on Halloween.
Now that my household is under control with Real Simple I turn to the InStyle magazine for fall fashion inspiration. So many great beauty tips and tricks, as well as the hottest fashions for the season. Give me some skinny jeans, tall boots and a stylin’ jacket and I’m a happy girl. I can always use a little advice in the fashion department, so my morning hot chocolate breaks can be found diving into another magazine.
