Escape Technology and Every Day Life With Boating

As a kid, one of my favorite things to do with my family and cousins, every Summer, was to go boating. My parents didn’t own a boat, but my uncle did. We would go on different ski trips as a family, and as I got into my teen years, I would go with my cousins and stay on the houseboat. We would take turns taking out wave runners and having our hand at water skiing and tubing off of the boat. I never did get very good at water skiing, but loved me some good ol’ tubing.

As an adult, I have had the opportunity to take my kids out boating a couple of times, on my in-laws’ boat. Everytime I get out on the water with my family, there is some great bonding that takes place. There is a lot of laughter at some of the expressions and stunts that everyone tries to pull while skiing and tubing. Racing through the water with the wind blowing through our hair is a great time for all. Then there are times when we get to go out on a small boat and do some fishing. That is one of the most peaceful experiences. I can’t recall a single time out boating that wasn’t a great time. I only wish I had the opportunity to take my family more often. Being secluded out on the lake, away from technology and away from the worries of the world, our family can bond and grow close to one another.

If you have ever wanted to learn more about boating, or are interested in getting your own boat, you’ve got to check out DiscoverBoating. This site is a huge source of information with everything to do with boats. If you aren’t ready to buy, you can even learn about renting a boat! We have done that a time or two. There are interactive tools, tips and how-to guides. You can even request a free “Get Started in Boating DVD”. Once you’ve learned all you can about boating, and if it’s right for you, then you can even try out the boat loan calculator, to see if you can make the step financially.

I just played around the Discover Boating site a bit and fun learning about all the different types of boats, using the Boat Selcetor Tool. I had no idea there were so many kinds! Some day I would like to own a houseboat and possibly an Inboard Ski/Wakeboard boat. Tons of fun to be had with these, for sure! At the site, you can even learn about how to insure your boat. You really can get any question answered by browsing around the Discover Boating site.

As my kids get older, I really want them to have some of the experience I had as a kid, and then some. I would love to watch them grow and learn to be great water skiiers. I think my husband’s side of the family may be a little more natural at it, so perhaps my kids will get that gene! To get the kids excited about boating, and to learn more, there are even some fun games and activities, on the Discover Boating site

Once you’ve figured out which boat is right for you, you can find a local marina or boat ramp close to your home. Then after you have made your trip, check out the Facebook Movie Maker App, where you can bring boating to life through personal photos made into your very own short movie.

I would love to hear what your favorite boating experiences or memories are!
